The Tata Central Archives is built on contributions from the Group companies. We are the proud guardians of thousands of documents, carefully preserved paintings and several such collections.

At the Tata Central Archives you can expect to find valuable records that have been meticulously preserved, as well as information, digitization projects and exhibitions available to researchers on the Tata history, and to the public at large. We are constantly preserving the records of value belonging to the Tata Group of Companies. Several Tata Companies have already deposited their valuable records with TCA for proper preservation and restoration.

These are some of the ways in which we can help :-

Transfer of records to the Tata Central Archives: TCA Archives collects records of any format, created or received by Tata Group of Companies on information pertaining to the Group. The archival repository includes the purpose built storage facility in its premises in Pune.

This facility is environmentally controlled for archives and is advantageously situated on the TMTC Campus. This facility provides transient storage for records identified as archives and storage for records requiring temporary retention.

TCA requests your company to identify an officer to liaise with in collecting and transferring the records and documentary materials of long-term value located at different facilities to the Archives in accordance with the guidelines provided by TCA.

TCA observes faithfully all agreements made at the time of transfer or acquisition.

Conservation, Restoration and Preservation: Records are preserved according to the latest scientific techniques of Conservation, Restoration and Preservation methods available in the field such as fumigation, de-acidification, mending, encapsulation, etc.

As the Group has a history of more than 130 years, many records come to us in a bad shape and we take on the required conservation and restoration of these documents with the help of our consultant specialist conservators.

Development of Instant Retrieval Tools: All files accessioned into the collection are systematically  catalogued and arranged. Important papers are identified, scanned and OCRed into our customised archival software to enable content search of the documents. On request, we provide a soft copy of the scanned images on Dat cartridges with an encrypted search engine. This ensures instant information accessibility for our clients.

Organising Exhibitions: TCA promotes research and provides publicity by organising exhibitions, setting up of Heritage Corners etc. from its vast collections. These go a long way in inspiring and motivating the employees and creating awareness amongst the general public about the Groups rich history and achievements.

Private Donations: From Tata ex-employees and the vast Tata family we enjoy a continuous and mutual process of sharing achievements, anecdotes and accolades. The Tata Central Archives is also the proud collector of ‘Tata stories’. Please do share these with us.
